Our story

A café that cooks for its guests.

Nine seats, one grinder and a pastry case that emptied by eleven. MAENUE grew because people kept asking what we would cook for twenty of their friends.

The MAENUE café bar

The bar, mid-morning

“We wanted a room where the coffee was serious and nobody made you feel you had stayed too long.”

MAENUE opened with a short menu and a longer list of neighbours. Breakfast ran into lunch, lunch ran into the afternoon, and the kitchen started cooking for tables of twelve in the back.

Catering came the same way: quietly, by request. A christening here, a boardroom lunch there, then a wedding for a family who had been regulars since the first month. We built the service around the way we already cooked — seasonal, generous, and finished by hand.

Today the café and the catering kitchen share one pass. The menu changes weekly, the coffee is still roasted in small batches, and the people plating your dessert are the people who made it.

Sourcing

Produce bought weekly from growers and markets we know by name. The menu is written after the delivery, not before.

Craft

Coffee roasted in small batches, pastry laminated overnight, stocks reduced slowly. Nothing that can be done properly is rushed.

Service

The people who cook your food are the people who serve it. One team, from the first tasting to the last plate cleared.
